Daily flow defaults to 150 gallons per bedroom unless you enter a value. The selected soil scenario supplies a transparent planning loading rate; flow divided by that rate produces absorption area, which becomes 3-ft-wide trench length and a rounded aggregate purchase quantity. Tank excavation and field excavation use separate soil-specific rates, while each tank material has its own tank, bedding/anchoring, and handling scope. Local design flow, measured soil, groundwater, setbacks, reserve area, and permitting control the approved system.

A calculator cannot replace the site evaluation

Daily flow is only one part of onsite wastewater design. The authority reviewing the permit may consider soil profile and loading rate, seasonal groundwater, slope, setbacks from wells and property lines, reserve replacement area, tank access, distribution method, and whether gravity flow is possible. A bedroom count does not reveal those conditions.

Use the result to reserve a budget range and compare broad options. Do not buy a tank or excavate a field from the modeled trench length. Obtain the required soil evaluation and approved plan first, then compare installer quotes against the same stamped or permitted scope.

Compare bids as a complete system

Separate the tank, inlet and outlet piping, distribution box, drain-field media and laterals, excavation, bedding, risers and lids, pump or alarm if required, electrical work, perc or soil evaluation, design, permits, inspections, hauling, grading, and final stabilization. Confirm whether the contractor restores topsoil and seed and how rock, unsuitable soil, groundwater, or failed tests become change orders.

Tank-only advertisements are not comparable with turnkey permitted systems. Ask for tank capacity and material, manufacturer model, warranty, field dimensions, and maintenance access in writing. Preserve the approved plan and as-built location for future pumping and repairs.
